San Francisco Loft

We just finished installation of a minimal loft into a downtown San Francisco penthouse.
We are fortunate enough to work with talented architects on our projetcs, and this one had the office of Stanley Saitowitz involved. Powder coated steel, and 3Form resin material for the solid surfaces. The details are clean and minimal in keeping with the design intent, and the delicate insertion into the space.

We are often asked to help out in terms of technical and fabrication issues on Artist installations. Sometimes it just needs some UrbanLab Design expertise to realize the full potential of the Artist's ideas and drawings.
Here are some pieces for glass artist Kana Tanaka that required our knowledge. They are custom machined and lazercut steel elements that are going to be embedded in a concrete wall and hold graphic glass pieces in Lafayette. Finish is powdercoated.

Objects

We were asked to develop some ornamental flames and columns/capitals for a residence south of San Francisco. We used new technology in conjunction with old technology to achieve the intent successfully.

A wine rack

Our studio/shop is so close to wine country that we HAD to rethink the wine rack. Our take on a sensual and kinetic wine display object. Hot rolled steel, with some elegant plasma cut ribs in the back.

Sculptural stair

The stair pieces assembled into a graceful and kinetic stair. It's one of those projects that works on several levels. It's simple in components and minimal in assembly. Structurally it is super stable. Visually, as you are able to walk around it, it becomes a sculptural piece. On to the next thing...

Parts are set for a dynamic stair

Here you see the simple pieces for the stair project we are designing and fabricating for our office. Simple idea, but the execution will be even better. Plasma cut and bent treads/risers and a steel pipe.
